With the motorhome safely tucked in next to Rose's sister Jill and Rick's house, we're having a great time, sharing cooking and meals, playing word games, and exploring Ann Arbor and environs.

Last night, Jill and Rick took us to downtown Detroit for a brief tour, and then to Jazzfest - a great evening!  We started out by the new Tiger Stadium (ComericA Park), which is absolutely fabulous!  Wish the Tigers had been in town this week - it's definitely being added to our "gotta do" list next time we're in town!

Then, dinner at "Cheli's Chili Bar and Grill", owned by Detroit Red Wing Star Chris Chelios - good food in a fun environment!

From there, we grabbed our bag chairs out of the car and walked the four blocks to the area around Cadillac Square, where the Detroit International Jazz Festival (appropriately called "RUMBLE in the Great Lakes - Music on all Cylinders") was taking place outdoors all weekend.  I was amazed to see a vibrant, clean and safe-feeling downtown Detroit - VERY different from the last time I'd been downtown almost forty years ago!  Huge crowds moved through the area, without a hint of the anxiety, fear, or seeming hatred that had engulfed the city I once knew.  The entertainment was fabulous - the featured artist this night was Herbie Hancock.  The weekend schedule looked great, with the Dave Brubeck Quartet and many other well-known names performing.   We are so happy Jill and Rick took us downtown - it was a fabulous evening!

We had a nice weekend, enjoying the opportunity to spend time with Jill, Rick and Nathan, and we even got to meet Nate's girlfriend, Kate.  Jill and I went to the farmers' market in Ann Arbor on Saturday, and Jill took advantage of the many available fresh fruits and vegies by making rhubarb and blueberry pies (mmmm!), and lots of great salads.  On Sunday, Mom and Aunt Helene and Uncle Ray  were over for a picnic - more FOOD - which had become something of a theme for the weekend.  Jill and Mom and I got to play Scrabble together on Monday, which was fun, since usually Jill and I play it online, and Mom and I play it on the traditional board when we're together.
