After a fabulous breakfast at Beth and Charlie's, they took us on a road trip up by the Rogue River and into Crater Lake National Park. We had all packed jackets, as Crater Lake National Park (altitude ~7,500 feet) averages about 600 inches of snow every year, and generally isn't completely open until after July 4th, but it was a gorgeous day, and we didn't need jackets at all, even when standing in snow drifts that were taller than we are!
Crater Lake is probably one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places we've ever seen. The Lake, 1943' deep at its deepest point, is the deepest lake in the U.S. It was formed almost 8,000 years ago, when Mount Mazama, a volcano, erupted, scattering ash over eight states and three Canadian provinces - 5,000 square miles covered with six inches of ash! The lake is such a deep blue, and so still, that it's hard to tell where the reflections end and the actual mountains begin.
