Where I stayed
Silent Valley RV Resort

When we booked this resort, we didn't realize that the elevation was about 3,500 feet, but once we started up the twisty, windy road, past the 3,000' Elevation sign, and then the 4,000' Elevation sign, we pretty much had it figured out.  Reading more closely in the Resorts of Distinction guide, I read that "when you turn onto the road, you'll see Silent Valley spread out below you".  Not so much when all you can see is the thick fog of cloud you've driven into!  We have managed to hit Southern California at the same time as a cold front blew in, so we're back to having the furnace, the electric heater, and our electric blanket on at night, and listening to the constant rain beating on the roof...not the weather we came to SoCal for!

Realizing that the windy-twisty road up and down was the only way to reach civilization, we decided we really didn't want to stay here for our planned two weeks, which include lunches with friends, several doctor appointments, and Thanksgiving afternoon with friends.  After a few hasty phone calls to our membership park reservation offices, we've re-arranged our schedule so we'll leave here on Tuesday, after only four days, and will go to one of our ROD parks down near Palm Springs for one week, then move to our Thousand Trails Palm Springs Preserve for three weeks.  (It's actually more miles to our doctors and friends from there, but it's Interstate all the way, so much quicker, and less risky in bad weather!)
