We flew out of Las Vegas (had booked the flight long before we knew we'd be in the Phoenix area!) the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, arriving at Detroit Metro Airport and picking up our rental car early Wednesday morning for the drive to Ann Arbor.  There was more snow on the ground and colder temps than I ever remember this early in the year, and of course we haven't been in a REAL winter weather for a very long time, so really felt the cold!
Despite having told Mom many times over the past months that we'd be there for Thanksgiving and her 90th Birthday - she was surprised to see us...there are good things to be said for loss of short-term memory late in life, one of them being that every day is full of surprises!  Mom doesn't get upset or frustrated by these surprises, she truly enjoys them, over and over again - so that's a good thing!
Thanksgiving Day at my Sister, Jill's house, was great - a fabulous, traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings, and the opportunity to get to know Megan's fiance', Daniel, and Nate's girlfriend, Kate )and her Mom), a bit better...and to meet Jill and Rick's "new son" - Basti - an exchange student from Germany who is a part of their family for this school year.  A really neat day, with great company, fabulous food, and many good opportunities to think about and express the many things we all have to be thankful for.
On Friday, we took a drive about 20 minutes north to WaldenWoods Resort, an RV Resort, Banquet and Conference Center that we've parked our RV at every year when we're there, and where we had an appointment for an interview with the Manager, as we're hoping to get work-camping jobs there next summer.  The interview went well, and we're pretty sure we'll hear the good word from the Manager by the end of December.
Saturday was the really big day - we were throwing a party for my Mom's 90th birthday, and like our visit, this, too was a surprise for her, despite our having told her all about it many times over!  What a great day it turned out to be - almost 40 old friends and family gathered to share memories and photographs, enjoy birthday cake, and join in singing Happy Birthday to Mom.  Great fun!  Pictures to follow!
