Where I stayed
Desert Shadows Western Horizon RV Resort
We left Cottonwood last Wednesday, heading for one of our membership parks in Apache Junction, planning to stay a week until it was time to go to Phoenix International Raceway for our long-awaited Nascar weekend. However, when we got to the park to check in, we learned that they had been without power for 7 days already, having blown all three of their transformers...and they weren't sure when it would come back on. Now, we are self-contained, but the temperature out at that point in time was close to 100 degrees, and we would have had to run our generator non-stop to be able to live in here, so we decided to check out our options. A quick phone call to Resorts of Distinction, one of our other memberships, found a spot for us here in Casa Grande. We've stayed in this park a couple of times before, and it's quite comfortable - just a little further away than we had planned on being, but with diesel fuel DOWN to $2.67 a gallon we were not as worried about the extra drive as we might have been a few months ago at $5.00 a gallon!
Anyhow, it's been good here, the pool is a perfect temperature, and I've been able to swim every day, something I'm going to miss when we move to Southern California in December, where we don't have a pool!
We've been doing some of our shopping in preparation for the big race weekend coming up, and we are spending some time researching "work camping" jobs for the winter out West here, and then for next summer when we have to be in Michigan in May. We're hoping that sitting in one place more will not only give us a chance to earn some money, it will slow down our spending, since the rapid decline in the market has hurt us pretty badly.
