Last week, after our "Mini-Mills Reunion", we had Mom come and stay with us in the motorhome for a few days, and, as usual - she had a ball!  We relaxed in the sun, played Bananagrams and Scrabble (which she beat me at, 2 of 3 games!), and just had a generally nice time.  One of the evenings she was  with us, Jill and Rick came out to have dinner with us, and it was a great night of visiting and catching up on Rick's new job and all the other news of their lives.
After we brought Mom back to her place, we spent some more time over at Jill and Rick's place - and Jill and I went to see "Mama Mia" - which was absolutely fabulous!  It was Jill's second time seeing it (in two days!) - but we both loved it, with the wonderful music and dancing, the Greek Isles locale, and especially since it involved Meryl Streep's character's daughter's wedding - and Jill is currently in that situation, with Megan's wedding coming up next May.    We had "Rick's Racks of Ribs" for dinner - and they were GREAT!
Never wanting food to take a back seat to any of our events, we planned to make Pasties (Pronounced Past-ees!  For those of you who don't know - they're a half-moon shaped pie filled with meat, onions, potatoes, and rutabagas, a reciepe brought over to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan from Cornwall England by the many iron and copper miners who moved here...my Dad was born in Cornwall, and his Dad came over to the UP to work the mines in the 1920's) on Sunday, when Aunt Helene and Uncle Ray were coming over, and my Niece, Megan, her fiance, Daniel, and my Nephew, Nate were all coming home from a mission trip to Pennsylvania.  It was another great day, and another great meal - enjoyed by all (although it will never be one of Greg's favorite dishes - it certainly IS one of mine!)
On our last night in the area, we met up with my old friend Penny and her husband Dave - in keeping with an old tradition, we met at an Irish Pub and Restaurant, which was another treat.
It wasn't so hard saying good-bye to Mom this time, knowing we'll be flying back to Michigan in November for her 90th birthday, on Thanksgiving Day.   While here, we made did some of the advance planning with the folks at Hillside, where she lives, to have a little cake and ice cream party in the private dining room the weekend after Thanksgiving - it will be fun, and we'll have some of her old friends who live in the Detroit area come over te celebrate with us.
