On Thursday, we left New Jersey and drove about 3 hours into the beautifully GREEN Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York.  We'll be here for a week before continuing north toward Bostonn to visit oldest daughter, Keri.
Tonight, we drove to nearby Middletown to the Orange County (this is the third O.C. we've been to!) Fairgrounds Speedway.   This was a dirt track that has tiered parking along the back straight so that  you can stay in your car, or sit in your own lawn chairs to watch the race.  The race announcer is broadcast over an fm radio station, so you can listen to it on your car radio - pretty nice setup!  We had brought a couple of adult refreshments, and a couple of sub sandwiches that we'd made, and were all ready to settle in for a great night of racing when the skies just beyond turns 3 and 4 turned black, the clouds billowed down to the ground, and by the end of the first heat race, the skies opened up!  It thundered, it lightening'ed, and it poured for about a half hour straight, and they finally announced that the races were cancelled.  We started for home, and with black clouds and wind and rain all around, a small circle of blue sky opened in front of us, and we followed it all the way home - it was eery and beautiful, and of course, I got lots of pictures!
