Mississippi River - Tow/Barge Traffic

Sunday, April 15, 2012

It was a short, two-hour drive from Little Rock to West Memphis, and our timing was perfect, as we were just  pulling into our site when the predicted high winds began, and, some 12 hours later, they've only gotten worse!  We haven't seen much in the way of rain yet, and no hail is predicted, but the way these winds are moving us around while we're parked here make me thankful that we have the weight of a big deisel engine to hold us down - I wouldn't want to be in a trailer or fifth wheel!

We've enjoyed watching the many big tows moving up and down the Mississippi - looks like quite a fight to make some of these turns in these winds!  We sat outside (had to right one of the many river-front benches, all of which had blown over!) after dinner, but couldn't take the wind for much more than about a half hour.  We're hoping that tomorrow's predicted thunderstorms blow right on by, as we're hoping to spend the next couple days exploring Memphis!
