Copper State Cruise Night @Sonic in Gilbert

Flag of United States  , Arizona
Saturday, January 7, 2012

Spur of the moment this afternoon, we remembered that our friend Jeff (who we've sat next to at Phoenix Int'l Raceway Nascar weekends for many years), had told us that a car club he belongs to, Copper State Cruisers, has a show in Gilbert the first Saturday of every month.  A little online research, and we determined that the show was, indeed, being held from 6 - 9 p.m. at the Sonic Drive-In at the far south end of Gilbert.
We grabbed a bit of dinner and took off.  As we expected, Jeff was there with his '63 Galaxy, which he runs on drag strips.  And his buddy, Ken Bardwell (we also know him from PIR), was there with his lovely wife, Jane.  We hadn't seen Ken in about 3 years, as he had been working over in China - and while there, he met the love of his life, and only recently have they returned to the States to live.  Jane told us about the first time Ken told her they were going to go to a car show - wehre they would see a lot of old cars - and she simply couldn't understand WHY anyone would want to look at OLD cars!  But once she saw these beauties - she understood completely, and now thoroughly enjoys attending car shows and cruise nights with Ken!
As has been the case every time we go to a classic car show, I get a little sad, missing our old "Black Beauty", the '37 Chevy Master Deluxe we used to own and show around Southern California.  But after a night of drooling on these classics, I can go a while again until I'll need another fix!   The first picture in this album is of our old Black Beauty, for those of you who might not have seen it before!
