Where I stayed
Farquar Metsa Tourist Park
Crossed the Mackinac Bridge into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, determined to finally spend some time here looking around the part of the world that was "home" to my Dad from the age of 9 until he went into the service. His family emigrated here to Ironwood, Michigan from Cornwall, England in 1927, when he was 9 years old...his father came here to work the Copper and Iron Mines.
One of the first things we did here was get in touch with old friends Dave & Pat Mair, and went out for a wonderful dinner with them at "Lagniappe Cajun Cafe" in Marquette. We'll see them again before we leave the area, when another old friend, Jane, is up here visiting with them, too!
Last night, we went to a fun little race track nearby - called Sands Speedway (was open for many years in the past as Thunder Valley Raceway). Fun racing, nice folks all around, and really strange schedule - racing from 5 pm to 8:00 pm (we heard the racing HAS to be finished by 8:30 or 9:00 - we're used to an 11 pm or Midnite "curfew" at most tracks!).
This afternoon, heading out to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore Cruise - supposed to be a little know beautiful area!
