Exchanged our few remaining Canadian Dollars, claimed our GST (General Sales Tax) Refund, and crossed back into the U.S. at the Sault Ste. Marie crossing. Still driving through Great Lakes Country, so lots of pretty scenery everywhere. Laughed at the sign for "Da UPpers Tourist Trap" (for those of you unfamiliar with the Upper Peninsula (U.P.)of Michigan, the residents are lovingly called "UPpers" (pronounced You-pers). Lots of pasty shops made Rose's mouth water with the memory of her Grandma Mills' specialty (a meat, potato, onion, and sometimes, turnip half-moon shaped pie brought to this area by the Cornish miners, of which Rose's Grandpa was one)...more details on pasties to follow!
We stopped at our campground on Lake Michigamme, unloaded the car, and went for a drive to Houghton, where Greg's alma mater, Michigan Tech, is located. Timing being everything, we discovered that we were one day early for their All-Class Alumni Reunion Pasty Picnic...but it was fun exploring the campus. We stopped at The Library (a bar and restaurant in which Greg had spent many hours "studying"!) for a drink.
Pictures will be uploaded soon...
