We bid a fond farewell to Nepal on their New Year's day, April 14, 2006. Even though it was New Year day, there wasn't much celebration going on because of the threat of more pro-democracy protests. Santaman, our trekking guide, stopped by to say goodbye before heading out to a protest. The friendly hotel staff at the Tibet Guest House was also on hand to wish us farewell. The hotel and Santaman wrapped katas around our necks. It's a white scarf that the Nepalis give to friends upon their departure to wish them good luck. I got teary eyed because I really enjoyed all of the friendly Nepalis I have met while on the trek and in Kathmandu. I also said goodbye to all of the other trekking guides that I saw on the trek and then later at the hotel because their clients were staying there.

They say time heals everything. Even though I had a really rough time on the trek and swore to myself during that time that I'd never come to Nepal to trek again, I am now warming up to the idea of returning here someday and doing another trek. But this time, I'll make sure that I'm healthy a month before the trek so altitude won't have so much effect on me. Hmm, perhaps Annapurna region next time!

We're now in Hong Kong. It's quite cool here because of the overcast weather. We're staying in a ritzy hotel that costs more per person per night than the two of us spent together in food and lodginging in a week in Nepal. But, I'm no longer having trouble breathing and my cough is slowly healing. We're staying in Causeway Bay on the Hong Kong Island and have quite a beautiful view of the bay/harbor from our hotel room on the 29th floor of the Excelsior (thanks Teresa!) The delicious smell of food permeates everywhere on the streets. I'm looking forward to some culinary delights! (Just no monkey brain or snake meat). Hope you all are well. Namaste.
