Where I stayed
Siyafunda, Makalali Private Game Reserve
So I haven't written in a while so as a short interum here's a rough list of what I've been up to -
I transfered to Makalali which is near Hoedspruit. I'm actually staying at Siyafunda which has 2 camps - Twines and Bush Camp (both very nice, not 5 star of course but comfy beds, all the facilities and even fresh bedding weekly!)
Within the first 3 days we got the Big 5 and even cheetah too!
One of the guys here (who has the same name as me so he is now Kiwi and I'm Aussie) is studying hyaena and we've used an impala carcass to bait them (no poison, just so we can see them) and ID a possible new clan.
My wrist is doing much better and Ican even lift a bit but I've had to miss out on a few walks (I'm yet to do a Rhino Walk) because of it being out of the brace for the first week now.
Whilst doing a tree survey by the river (and battling black jacks and spiders) I got stung by a wasp and I have now been told I'm likely alregic because of the fast and big reaction I have to them.
We spent a few nights at Bush Camp (no electricity and cold showers but right in the middle of the reserve)
We have regular visits from Nyala, Warthog and a few others at Twines but we've had an elephant, giraffe and other biggies come very close. There was even a lion yesterday!
I've finally seen a snake (or 4) in Africa - including a Puff Adder.
I've gotten up close and personal with mock charging elephants
And the food is fantastic, the people are fantastic, the location is fantastic. It's all good!
