Where I stayed
TIP: If you're deciding on whether to go to the Animal Orphanage or the Elephant Orphanage, having been to both I would recommend the Elephant Orphange (David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust) but this is only open between 11am and 12noon, so if you miss that go for the Animal Orphanage at Nairobi National Park.
TIP: The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust also has a small stall and the opportunity to foster one of the animals under their care. Any of the elphant or rhinocerous are able to be fostered for $50 USD. You will recieve a pack with a certificate, a watercolour picture, and a magazine about the Trust. You can also get a little picture card of your elephant (or in my case another elephant as Kilaguni didn't have one yet. You will also recieve updates about your foster animal via email. For more information check out their website: http://www.sheldrickwildlifetrust.org/asp/fostering.asp
TIP: Have the chance to get up close and personal with Rothschild Giraffe at the AFEW Giraffe Centre. You will not only learn about them but you will be able to feed them (even given them a hug or a kiss depending on who (giraffe-wise) is visiting on the day). These giraffe are in a breeding programme helping increase numbers of Rothschilds in the wild. A main breeding herd is maintained and when the young are old enough they are selected to be rehabilitated into the wild. For more information: http://www.giraffecenter.org/
TIP: Nairobi's International Airport has plenty of shops - books, souvenier, duty free but not too many food shops. You can easily amuse your time but have a good feed before heading to the airport, especially if you're a veggie.
