After inital transport issues, as always, comfortably settled into hotel and recalling the perils of a female travelling in Italy... Just something you have to get used to methinks. Staying right near the station has its advantages and disadvantages, but the metro is easy enough to work out.

Spent the first day sleeping, and then out into 'la bellissima ciita di Milano'. It's not as monumentally beautiful as Rome or other European cities for that matter... but it's certainly a city, and there is certainly lots of shopping to do. Feeling quite comfortable here; most speak some English at least... But I'm definitely trying to use 'il mio Italiano'. Il Duomo is absolutely breathtaking - not so much the interior... but the climb to the roof was... OK, yes breathtaking (still need too work on my fitness) but the views and the actual roof structure and decorations were so pretty. I could have sat up there for hours; luckliy I didn't as it was a rainy, cloudy afternoon. Went shopping instead, which wasn't too bad.

This is scary and weird to say, but I think I may be getting over the shopping. Whether it's the seriously heavy suitcase or same old stores (I've vowed not to walk into another H&M, will only go to Zara in Rome), I've not bought anything but food and 'biglietti' lately. Yay for saving money and getting fat...!

Today, went to see the Castello Sforzeco... or something like that... Not the most impressive of palaces that I've seen, but apparently a big thing here for locals and tourists alike. Sat in Parco Sempione for a little while, then walked around and around, and then back around a few areas - the arty-farty, then the trendy, then the posh. Spent a while in the Golden Quad; walking from LV to CK to Zegna to Cartier... To these places - not in. I feel so poor but I really don't care. People are head to toe in Gucci or LV... and there's me in my thongs. Lol...

More self-catering (pizza and vegies) and ready to take on the damn trains again tomorrow arvo - off to Bologna. Will head to markets tomorrow morning and then say arrivederci to Milan.
