Where I stayed
Baam Pim, Chiang Mai
Riverline Guesthouse, Bangkok
I spent the following few days tucked up in bed, whilst Matt surfed the internet, watched Spurs (lose) and walked around generally bored - incredibly annoying this illness stuff! We also had to move GH as we hadn't booked into Banilah long enough, as we were supposed to be in Pai! So we stayed a few extra days instead, long enough for me to get better, and had to wave bye bye to Pai :o( It just wasn't meant to be...
When I had started to recover, we decided to hire another scooter, 'Pop', for our last day in Chiang Mai so we could make up for lost time and visit sights we had planned to see
That evening, we were lucky to stumble upon some celebrations for the 3 day Lantern festival of the YeePeng month. There was a big, colourful street parade of rather attractive Uni students, dressed in traditional Thai outfits, dancing and performing. In the backround, hundreds of Kome Loy lanterns (mini hot air balloons), were being lit and 'set free' into the sky - it was really beautiful...lots of little fire lanterns floating into the night!! It was a great atmosphere, and we were really glad that we were in Chiang Mai to experience it.
The following day we left the fab northern city and headed back to Bangkok. The bus was pretty good - reclining seats, air con, pillows, blankets...and 2 random stops by the police who checked all the Thai men's passports/I.D.s - not sure what that was about?!? We headed back to our ol' faithful GH, the Riverline and received another warm welcome - "back again??" After a snooze, we decided to hit Siam Square and visited the cinema to watch This Is It - it was rather good and had Matt and I dancing like MJ all the way home!
Tonight we have another overnight bus to Krabi....its time to bum around on the beach, at last!! We are quite excited about island hopping, catching some rays and snorkelling in the big blue - we just hope that the weather is our friend and my immune system holds up!!
