One of the trusty blogs I've been following turned out to be not so trusty again and I found myself wandering the wrong way down some interesting streets near Saint Paul. I redirected myself toward the river and eventually came across the Musée de la Curiosité et de la Magie which would only open at 2pm. I found a shady spot down on the river and ate my freshly-bought capsicum and read my book before hurrying back up to the museum as the doors opened. A cheery Frenchman greeted me and told me to start with the exhibit on mechanical oddities before making my way through for the magic show at 2:30pm which would then lead me on to the displays on magic history and paraphernalia.

The magic show was a true delight; the skilled magician had very quick hands and entertained us with card tricks and rope and ring fancies. He didn't draw a rabbit or doves out of his hat, but I was very impressed nonetheless. You would have been a little kid lost in the magic of his work. The exhibits were interesting and colourful; a few paintings, mirrors and a lion-faced box awoke in alarming displays of horror, breakage and roaring as I approached and there were other, fascinating historical items from famous magicians and acts.

Heading back to the apartment I stumbled upon an open-aired market being held in a huge courtyard and a series of corridors leading off from it. It was strange and mysterious walking through, there were odd, grotesquely pain-filled expressions on the mannequins holding scarves, hats, dresses and belts and weird carvings and stones for sale.

I stopped at Bio-op around the corner and collected some vegetables for dinner, before returning to cook them for myself and sit out in the courtyard with the cat and the bats as I wrote and ate.

I drifted off to sleep around 10:30pm, dreaming longingly of you and your hand, slipped into mine.

So cool! I wish that we could have explored together. I would have squealed with delight at the old-fashioned displays of mystery and magic. I am glad that you got to experience this - so unusual and out of the ordinary.
