What I did
A farewell

Saying goodbye to you has lately just meant for the day and I get to drive slowly away as you and Lucinda send me on my way, standing outside in the driveway together. I get to watch you as you dance your alien-esque moves of farewell and as I drive up the hill I always notice that unknowingly my mouth has frozen in a face-splitting smile. I know that after a day of sipping tea I will get to rush back into your warm embrace and we'll get to tackle the night together. I get to wake up and watch as you're startled awake by my movements, only to stare at me momentarily with your adorable sleepy-panda eyes before promptly drifting back off to sleep. The taste of your lips; the smell of you first thing in the morning; your voice as you sing to yourself during every daily routine; the three freckles just below your neckline; voice warm-ups as you get changed in the morning; and your terrified yelps of alarm when I unexpectedly enter any room. Cabbage and pineapple juice with ginger; feta and zucchini soufflé; warm tofu quiche; pumpkin soup with homemade bread; popcorn; coffee; and porridge.

Your eyes are little earth-coloured fairy gems, hand painted by one of the ancient gods of art; perhaps Erato put down her pen for a moment to depict in colour the meaning of her poetry?

I want our children to read this. I love you immensely. Love doesn't cover it. This gives me great comfort.
