Forecast in Vegas...Hot and Dry...another 100+ F (that's around the high 30's C) degree, sunny day.

We went downstairs for breakfast...Full buffet breakfast.

The buffet room was through the middle of the casino...funnily enough, we both didn't go near any of the machines. And the buffet room was huge.

Lets list some of the foods, cereals, fruit, salad, hash browns, bacon, scrambled eggs, omelets cooked in front of you any way you liked, porridge, chicken sausage, potato grits, pancakes and maple syrup and french toast, fried catfish. All nice and healthy (not!). And to top it off there was a dessert station with donuts, plain and artery killers!! This certainly is the land of excess.

Amalia went to the reception desk and asked if it was possible for us to shift to a room in the pyramid, and with a view...good girl, and we got it. From the 3rd floor in the east tower to the 22nd floor in the north of the pyramid, overlooking the great sphinx out the front of the hotel, and overlooking the airport. Nice!!! The room was nice and large and at one end was a large sloped window which was the outside of the pyramid.

Outside the room, on the balcony, you looked down onto the second floor of the hotel. The ground being all the gaming tables and slots, the second had all the shops, a food court, imax theater, night club, restaurants and an Egyption museum. It is actually the 3rd largest hotel in the world and had over 4000 rooms.

The lift
to this room was called an inclinator, it went up to the rooms on an angle rather than straight up like a normal lift.

Ok, enough looking around the hotel, lets go out to the strip. Our hotel was right on the strip, at the far end, next to us was the gold Mandalay Bay, and the Excalibur - a disney inspired hotel that looks like a castle. Funnily enough, the castle was based onthe Disney castle, which is itself based on the Fussen Schloss Neuschwanstein that we saw in Germany. There was a free tram running between the 3 hotels. Out on the strip there's almost no need to cross the roads, as almost all hotels were connected by walkways over the roads. Looking down the strip, we could see the Empire State building, and the statue of Liberty (at the New York New York hotel), the Eiffel tower (at Hotel Paris) and the MGM grand just to name a few.

Bearing in mind that at this point it was probably around 11 am in the morning, we were surprised at the number of people walking around with drinks.....and souvineer cups from the hotels, and finally these two foot long cups that Amalia later found out were full of margherita, when she bought one (it is now proudly on display at home).

Not much to do here if you're not gambling, there a lot of shops, but mostly geared towards women, I guess the men are all gambling away all the money.

We managed to walk up and down the strip a couple of times, and see most of the big name hotels, Belaggio, Monte Carlo, Ceasers Palace, Tropicana, Aladdin, and I'm sure there's a few more I've forgotten.

Went for dinner at the Mexican restaurant inside the hotel, this is where Amalia got her 2-foot long margherita glass...at this point full. I don't think she made it all the way through...but gave it a pretty good go!!!

This night, we decided to have a bit of a gamble. $20 each. I like roulette, but unlike NZ where you can put down $1 here you have to put down $10 a hand, even on a $1 table.....seems a bit pointless to me, might as well be a $10 table. Oh well, 2 rounds later, my $20 had gone!!! Amalia had a bit more luck on the spinning wheel game, at least it lasted longer than 2 hands, but it did end up with the same result. She really wanted to play blackjack, but at $10 minimum knew that it was pointless...I guess we were not going to strike it big on the tables :-(
