What I did
Four Corners

We didn't have to travel far today but of course the wind picked up and Terry had a head wind all the way.  Our campground in Gallup was once again on Route 66.  What we have discovered since we came into NM is that the campgrounds don't have to worry about maintenance on their spots since there is no grass and few trees, all they have to do is throw some extra gravel down.  We were going to stay at the Red Rock State Park but after driving thru we decided not to since all the sites were red dirt and with the wind we didn't want all the dust.

Drove around the town which was split, old on the south side of the interstate and the new on the north side.  Sat out for a few minutes before the wind and temperature drove us inside.  Unfortunately, due to the dry conditions you can't have any fires at any of the campgrounds.

FRIDAY-We got on the road early (for us anyway) as we wanted to see Four Corners where Utah, Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico meet.  We were close to the area over 10 years ago when we took a 3 week driving tour but it was getting late and we were afraid of not finding a motel.  Since it was over a 2 hour trip both ways Terry was in for a long day driving.  This area gives a new meaning to High Desert area.  As we traveled north the landscape got sparser and sparser and what was amazing is that there was cattle and horses out in the fields.  I guess they were grazing but I sure couldn't figure out on what.

The Navajo's run the four corners and there are booths all around that they rent to sell their jewelry, paintings, shirts and other curio's. As you can see from the pictures of the plaques it looks like they kept the original survey locations although when surveyed later with better equipment it was slightly off.  We walked around and went to one of the picnic areas to have a snack before the long drive home.

The last picture was the local TV weather broadcast out of Albuquerque  that we came across and I could not figure if it was bring your pet to work day??

Another area done and on to Arizona
