Knowing it's winter in Bhutan, I brought my winter cloths including my skiing jacket. But winter at 2000m here isn't winter at 2000m in Europe. Cold at night (especially without any central heating!), but quite sunny and pleasant during the day. But driving higher up into the mountaints, to Phobjikha Valley, that changed a bit.
The rather large Hotel Phobjikha (it had some other name which I forgot) had three guests tonight: my guides Jigme and Tandin, and me. So yes, you can check in any time you like. The hotel staff decided that isn't worth running the big generator and so we only had electricity until 9pm - and no hot water. Heating was strictly DIY - with a little wood-burning stove in your room. Never mind the early shut-down though. There isn't much to do up here anyway once the black-necked cranes escaping the Tibetan winter - the main attraction here - have gone to bed.
