Goodbye Auckland and NZ, looking forward to warmer weather.

Good flight, though it is really odd gaining a day - left on Saturday 3.30pm, arrived Friday 9.30pm! Still can't work out why Air NZ thinks it is the No. 1 airline - Singapore Airlines beats the pants off it.

10.00pm and it is so warm and balmy - greeted in arrivals by the ukele playing local  celebrity Papa Jake which was novel. Quick transfer to our bungalow, which was larger than we expected, and straight to bed; although it took a while to get used to the ound of the waves crashing on the reef.

There was heavy rain during the night, but dawn brought warm but cloudy weather for the next 2 days. Amazed to find that the bungalow is right on Muri Beach and only yards from the sea with lovely views from the decking of the lagoon, reef, and motus..The owner had also provided us with fresh papaya and bananas from his gardens.

Paddled a kayak across the lagoon a few times, swimming when I fell out - it was idylic but neither of us were keen on the numbers of  sea cucumbers in the lagoon. They are literally the size of cucumbers and are completey harmless, only filtering sand for nutrients, and standing on them is similar to standing on a hosepipe.

On the second day I spotted a small seasnake at the waters edge which freaked-out Carole before it dived down into the sand.

Very relaxing and laid back, and we had good meals at Flame Tree and Point restaurants.

Flying to Aitutaki tomorrow
