The golf trip was organised by Steve and I was looking forward to a decent round of golf at a local course to see if my game could recover from the disastrous run I'd been having in England. So four of us (Tim, Rob, Steve and I) set off at lunchtime in Jim’s hire car to drive the supposed 45-minute route around the lake with Tim driving. Tim normally drives an Aston Martin at home and this was a Ford Focus but that didn’t stop him breaking the world record rally course time and nearly giving Steve a heart attack on the way! We got there in one piece and off we went to the clubhouse to sign in. Here I found that we were playing a top 50 US course famous for one particular hole "The floating green at Coeur d’Alene!" – the par 3 14th which is a 170 yard (it’s on a pulley system where they can vary the length of the green from the mainland!) 7 iron onto a man made island green which you get to and from on a boat called “The Putter”. What a hole and what an amazing course. American golf at its best where they think of everything including fans on greens to cool you down and submerged rakes for clearing the bunkers! I teamed up with Tim to form a Brits team against Rob and Steve – the Yanks- in a Ryder Cup style four-ball match. Tim and Rob played really well with Steve and I contributing on some holes with the match going down to the last green for me to hole a 6 footer to halve the hole and win the game 1 up. A fantastic game on a gem of a course.
