01/02/2011 - Sunday - Monterey - Santa Cruz - Capitola

We woke up very early, it was a cold and rainy day in San Francisco. Back to Mark's truck, thru the Bay Bridge toward Monterey, I was going to see one of the most expected views in the trip - Pacific Ocean view by California 1 - State Route.
Mark gives me a CD, and asks me to play it - The O.C soundtrack! - I can describe the sensation of going down CA 1 listening "Phantom Planet - California". Actually I can - one of the most amazing experiences I ever had!
California 1 or Highway 1, runs along the Pacific coast, and I can say it is the most beautiful coastline I ever saw. The sun came and it was "touching" the water so perfectly, becoming an incredible view.
Three hours later, we were in Monterey, a charming and romantic place. We walked thru the Pier, the sea food smells was unmistakable, and the charming place made us to want to have a moment at the end of the Pier. I think there started one of the several moments we had.
It was time to see whales - Chris Whale Watching Cruise, departing at 10am. We were going to spend the next 2 hours, looking forward to see them. Dolphins and sea lions were there to give us a welcome to the Monterey Bay. - Beautiful!
The Monterey's view in the fog was amazing. Soon, we were going to see some Grey Whales, which tends to swim along the Monterey Bay in November through to May. And we saw them, far away from us, but we did.
The sensation of being in the Pacific Ocean was incredible! - Great tour to do!!
2 hours later, we were heading back to the Pier, more hungry than the whales we saw! Actually we were more curious about eating lots of Brazilian food than anything. - which was a disaster!
We drove to Santa Cruz, where we were going to eat at the Brazilian restaurant.
The restaurant is called Café Brasil, small and crowded. The smelling was driving us crazy! I chosen the most famous plates and drinks for Mark to try - Coxinha as an entree,Feijoada, Bife à cavalo, guaraná and tropical mixed fruits juice. - Coxinha was great! food was normal. It's very weird to eat Brazilian food in America, they simply definitely don't taste the same. All the flavor is lost and it drives me crazy! Anyway, it was good to eat Brazilian food even not tasting what I expect to.
After lunch, we went to Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, the famous seaside amusement park. Unfortunately, it was closed. But we still had fun! Walked thru the Santa Cruz Beach, saw the pier, the ocean, walked in the sand, and came back to play some games ... Oh .. Need to tell you, Mark almost killed someone playing, but he blames me! LOL
At the pier, we had a blast watching the Santa Cruz sunset drinking a margarita. No words to describe, simply perfect and gorgeous!
Later, we were at Pizza my heart, a tiny Capitola restaurant, but the taste ... oh the taste!!! Gorgeous! Pizza my heart is a restaurant typically Californian, we will never find one outside California, which is the magic of the place. After eating, we went to a bar to have more drinks and finish our Truth or Dare game, which was .. a lot of information! Nice!!! I think we were drunk -  again!  Amazing and gorgeous day!
Time to head back to San Francisco.
