Where I stayed
Friday night I went out with everyone who I lived with and we had fun, Saturday morning I was picked up and brought down to Kenmare with my cousins and her friend.
The plan (at least from my point of view) was dinner with some family members and then going out to town for the night with the Riney's and Megan.
On Friday, my Aunt Mags texted me saying we'd go get a dress for me to wear, because apparently they get dressed up to go out at night and especially since it was my 21st I needed something new and nice to wear. So after we made it to Kenmare, I went shopping with Mags and got a dress that I thought was way too fancy just to wear to the bar, but I was just going with what she was saying and figured she'd be happy even if I felt a bit stupid in it haha.
After dinner we went to the bar Ryan's in town and Sheila wanted me to meet her friend (LIES)at the sailors bar which is a bit out from the town, plus they were having a 2 for 1 drink special (LIES), so we had a drink at Ryan’s and waited for the cab to the sailors.
We walk into the sailors and SURPRISE everyone screams and I am completely dumbfounded.
I had absolutely no idea what so ever and my biggest fear at the time was that I wasn't going to know anyone there. But I looked around a bit and saw that I did actually know mostly everyone. As I am slightly recovering from the shock my phone rings... I see that it is a restricted number and assume that it was my dad because he called me from a restricted number earlier in the day. I walk around the corner to answer, so that I wouldn’t be rude to everyone else, and as I say hello and get ready to yell at him for the surprise I hear his voice double and look up to see him standing there. I legitimately screamed as if I had seen a ghost. And then my dad's aunt Mary Donnelly from the Bronx comes around the corner too. It was the best surprise ever. I was so so shocked. I was legitimately shaking for about a half hour. Oh, and of course my cousin Fiona got it all on film.
After the initial shock and calm down period everything went really really well (at least I think) my aunt Sheila made sandwiches and there was sausages and chips and a dj that said my name a lot. I got 21 kisses and 21 bumps (where the lift you up by your limbs and throw you up and down like a parachute) there was a cake and everything. It was honestly the best 21st birthday anyone could ever have asked for.
Oh and to top it all off I got an electric blanket!!!
I went back with my dad and Uncle Patrick, john and Sheila and carol to my Uncle Patricks house for the night, and when we got up on Sunday to go to mass, both carol and I had a very limited selection of clothes. We both ended up going to church in high heels and I was in a short red skirt with black tights. We were quite a sight to see.
After church we went to a bar for a drink and then to lunch with a bunch of relations, during which I think we were all pretty much falling asleep. During lunch, it started snowing and when we left, to drive Mary up to her parent’s house to get her stuff for work, we couldn’t even make it up the first hill because of the snow. It was super scary slipping and sliding around on the snow.
We went to the sailors again to pick up stuff and on the way back it took us a good 10 minutes to go up the hill to the house which is about 150 feet. The next morning looking at the tire tracks was a complete zig zag all the way up. I think anyone driving other than my dad would have left the car at the bottom of the hill and just walked up to the house, but my dad is far too determined and stubborn minded for that.
We were meant to leave Patrick’s at around 9 on Monday morning in order for me to make it to my class at 2, but there was so much ice that we couldn’t leave Patricks house until around 12, so I didn’t make it to class but I don’t think its that big of a deal.
It’s so crazy that the ice/snow causes so many problems here where as the same amount of ice/snow at home would be absolutely nothing.
So that was pretty much my weekend of awesomeness. Oh, well not all awesomeness, my car was stolen on the night of my birthday, so no more Alfonzo. Which really really sucks. I liked that car. But I guess there is nothing I can do about it. And now we have no running water in my apartment which is very annoying.
