Day 76 Vancouver Island - Victoria
Well after checking ferry times we decided to begin the day early and attempt to find our way to the ferries and catch the 9am sailing.
The trip to the ferry terminal was simple and the system of loading and travel on the big ferries was certainly an experience to have.
The number of cars, trucks, Semitrailers, and motor homes coming off and loading on in a turnaround time of less than 25 minutes was astounding.
The fit out and comfort on these Ferries put simply, very comfortable and clean. A great experience within this journey we all enjoyed.
Off loaded from the ferry and Karon had already programmed Mandy to take us to the Famous Burchart Gardens. The trip was not a long one, and we had a couple of minor disagreements with Mandy and the signs indicating the way won in the end and we arrived at the gardens to be amazed at the number of cars and people turning up to view this renowned site.
The neatness and the colourful displays of the flowers and roses in bloom were worth the trip on the ferry alone.
We enjoyed an hour or so simply doing a circuit of the gardens and the gift shop, where the "obligatory purchases were made by all the travellers."
Return to the car and into Victoria BC on Vancouver Island.
We found a park and then began a stroll around the town centre, found an "Old Fashioned Deli" headed in for a late lunch and a discussion as to "what next?"
It was decided to walk for a short time and feed the parking meter, then look for the "big Bus" tour of the city.
This tour was at least narrated as opposed to the day yesterday, " a good place to take the picture" driver! Not a big lift up because it appeared this guy was on a time schedule and he was continually jumping the taped narration, cut a couple of corners and missed a couple of what we believed were scheduled stops. Never mind it was interesting to get as much as we did, then hop off a couple of minutes before the parking metre ran out.
We decided to head back out because the time to travel back, get dinner and allow time for Marian to pack we would be late enough for our sleep.
The trip back to the ferry and ride across was again a wonderful relaxed trip, Mandy set our sights for home and away we went. Well great, except she took us home a new route. Nope we cannot work her out at all except it might be "a female hormonal thing!" (the boys secretly whisper quietly between themselves)
The arrival back was a flurry of eat some dinner and then Marian (assisted by Earnie) attempted to pack her bag! YEAH right! No way was it going to fit in one bag, Earnie gave up his suitcase to allow her to "squish" everything in! We believe by the time the suitcases were loaded in the car for the trip to the airport in the morning, the Castle lift on the springs was noticeable! J
Off to bed with a planned early start because Marian had a big trip ahead of her.
