Day 67 Watson Lake - Yukon
A discussion held last night as to which route we will head for tomorrow because we have a choice from Watson Lake to take route 37 (the one we came up from Stewart,( remember Stewart , the first glacier photo and the bears on the road out.) or will we continue down the Alcan highway to Dawson Falls. It was decided to leave the decision until we had more information on Stewart to establish if elusive salmon are running down there yet.
We had a slower beginning knowing we were heading only a short distance (240km) to Watson Lake, as well as wanting to call the information centre in Stewart at 9am to establish the route.
The information was positive from our friend in the information centre, the salmon have begun the run, no guarantee of bears but the salmon are coming in, Hey! We have seen bears but no salmon, decision made to retrace our steps from Watson lake (besides Marion has yet to view the beautiful scenery along that route, including the glacier).
We had a quick chat to Robert, Carol, Dean and Bobbie before we left, they are heading the same route but planning a different RV park.
The route to Watson Lake is easy ( but we figure anything is easy after the top of The World Highway!) a stop for morning tea and roll on into Watson Lake to fill with Gas.
Then across the road to the RV park, walk in and the guy said "So you came back"
Not bad if you consider all the guests he has. Upon inquiring he simply recognised us and our accents. We are nice and early and had the pick of spots, time for lunch then some housework required.
The girls set out and caught up on the washing and drying, the boys washed the Castle as best they could with only low pressure hose and a mop. Not as good as the high pressure and soak that cost the $24, but hey it didn't cost any $'s.
We have gathered enough equipment now to enable us to "Put up our sign" in the signpost forest, so that is the task for the day as well as take in the Northern Lights show this evening.
We are on air here, but again it will be limited for a couple of days after today.
We have a big day travel tomorrow to see the mythical Salmon run, then on our way to Prince George, most likely via the Glacier View RV park, cannot be sure at this point but hey we set the time tables ourselves and that is part of "Being on the road!"
