Where I stayed
Fooooooooooooooooood!
Baklava, Turkish delight, Adana kebab, fresh grilled trout, fresh tomatoes, yogurt, cheese, and did I mention baklava?
Let's just say we gained all the weight we had lost in Uganda back, and probably more. It didn't help that a lot of the meals included in our trip were buffets.
And for the record, I don't enjoy raw tomatoes very much. But I finally understand why. We have fake ones in Vancouver. Yes folks, fake tomatoes. They are, apparently, supposed to have FLAVOUR. Every single tomato we encountered in Turkey was red, meaty, sweet, and flavourful. They weren't the mushy, red-from-CO2 spraying, and completely flavourless imitations we have back home.
And baklava, oh sweet baklava! It was our happy food in Turkey. We had it 3 times in the last 24 hours we spent in the country. We will be trying to source it out in Vancouver.
So, as much as having vendors constantly yelling out, "Chinese? Japanese? Korean?" at us as we walked past was not pleasant, the food in Turkey certainly made up for it. Next time that we go, I'm bringing/buying an empty suitcase for the rugs, local handmade pottery, and food that I wanted to buy while we were there.
Unfortunately, we didn't get "Turkey" for Christmas, but what we didn't realize was that we'd get a real Christmas in Croatia...
