Seriously.

I probably looked like I had a neck deformity because I always had my head down to weave through gobs of spit and snot on the sidewalk/street.

Changsha was a step up from Hengyang in terms of how much it had going on, but it's not exactly somewhere I would want to go back to visit again.  That's the truth of it.

The pollution was so bad that even after heavy rain, it did nothing to improve the permanent haze in the air and through the entire city.

I did really appreciate being able to spend some time with an uncle there though, who stays because he has a genuine heart for the poor/deprived/uneducated there.

We also learned how pathetically UN-Chinese we are.  Mostly, because our "Mantonese" wasn't cutting it as we tried to maneuver through the city.  I am utterly ashamed to admit that on our last day there, we were so frustrated with not being able to order anything in restaurants (no English menus or English speaking staff), that I resorted to a burger at McDonald's.  I was horrified with myself and nearly gagged on the burger as I choked it down.  Ok, I'm exaggerating, but I really wasn't happy with myself at all.  I had managed to travel for almost 3 months without hitting up McDick's except for an occasional cheap soft serve until then.

Orange Island was a wonderful reprieve from the city, and reminded us a bit of Stanley Park.  Minus the giant "Mao's Head" (see photo).  It really is giant.

Being able to continue spending more time with team members we knew from our Hengyang trip was super awesome too.  My new BFF, Paige, even made a last minute decision to join us in Changsha on the weekend just to spend more time with us and see a different city.

New friends are great.
