Where I stayed
What I did
Tad Leuk Waterfalls
Pak Ou Caves (Kong Lor)
Xe Champhone (village)
Tad Lo elephants
But I'll let the pics do the talking.
All of the places in Lao we were at before Pakse (pronounced "pak-say") don't even register on the map on this blog site.
Major highlights:
Bone jarring tuk tuk ride through Lao countryside from a remote village that lasted 3.5 hours instead 1 hr. Apparently made the longest travel day (13 hrs?) in the history of Stray Asia travel. We ended up skipping seeing another Wat and some ancient, sacred, huge turtles.
Also had lots of no running water, no flushing toilets, no electricity, and no internet (horror!) during this time. We survived! Woohoo!
Also left a hotel for the first time ever after we found one of the employees sleeping on our bed. Didn't help that the place stank and felt like it should be a brothel instead of a hotel. DO NOT GO TO LANKHAM HOTEL in Pakse. Go to Phonsavan Guesthouse instead (way nicer and cheaper too!).
But, we got to feed wild monkeys, touch rescued elephants, and sit speechless in thousand year old caves in the dark.
Oh, and I (Carolyn) also almost sank with a river boat...
And we both ate dog...does NOT take like chicken. More like roast pork/beef.
LOVE the adventures we're having.
