Darwin has stayed true to first impressions and just keeps throwing people towards me that I've already met. It's been really good and I've enjoyed the little re-unions greatly. One of the guys, Edward, I first met outside a tent on the Mongolian Steppes. I ran into him again in Xi'an, China and now here in Darwin!

A cool group I've been hanging around with are Mark, Corina, Louise and B.C. All are Irish except Corina who's an English girl who met the others while working in Dublin. They were at the YHA and have been a good laugh.

I was looking forward all week to the Liverpool vs Chelsea second leg semi-final of the Champions League. On Tuesday night I went out with Nick who I'd last seen in Fremantle and then went to see a band called 28 Days. I set my alarm for 3.30am but after having a few too many drinks at the band I overslept and awoke just as the match was kicking off. The casino is 20 minutes walk so I didn't arrive until Kuyt had put Liverpool ahead. Inside the casino was Adam, I met him in the casino last week while watching the football, and B.C. the Irish guy from above paragraph and a few other stragglers. Liverpool held out for a 1-0 win after extra time which took the tie to penalties. No-one beats the 'pool on penalties and we were through to the final after heroics from our 'keeper Reina. B.C. and I walked back to the YHA in very high spirits. I wasn't drunk but supremely tired. I had to get on the Ghan at 11am and didn't feel like it one bit. Plus I wanted desperately to see the following evening's game between Man Utd and Milan. So, while walking through Darwin at dawn I opted to stay another half-week until the next Ghan train on Saturday.

The following night I went out with Corina and Louise. From about 5pm I was warning them that I'd be off to bed early so I could get up at 4am for the football again. However, I completely lost track of time and at 3am I was outside a night club (the World Famous Vic Hotel no less) and in not very good shape. The police tried to move me on and coming to my senses I asked if they would give me a lift to the casino! They told me they had better things to do and I walked there myself! I got there ok and the usual suspects were there too. Adam is a Man Utd fan so it was his turn to feel the pressure. It turned out to be a mis-match and Milan romped home 3-0. Adam left before it was over and I don't blame him. I was again supremely tired as I hadn't been to bed at all. It was 9am before I got back to the YHA...!

On Thursday I ventured out to meet up with the Irish group who had by then moved to a hostel down the road. If they were trying to get rid of me I didn't take the hint! We all went to the Mindril Beach for sunset and then to the nearby night market. That was a fun few hours and I got some great photos.

On Friday 4th I was left to reflect on a really good time I'd had in Darwin. It wasn't the travelling as I've come to know it. I didn't even see the limited sights around Darwin. I'd just had an excellent week and a half with some great people.
