Day 100 if I've counted right - woo hoo! I've only really just noticed that on here where I number the days - but I've certainly noticed the monthly "mini-anniversaries" as they've come around. I'm slightly amazed with all that I've done so far and if my trip were to end now I'd be very thankful for what I've experienced and who I've met.
Brrr another cold night in Pai - tonight I will ask for an extra blanket (making three!). In my chat yesterday with the guest house owner she had suggested we ride out to the North West and see some caves called the "Coffin Caves". That meant holding on to the motorbikes another day and going a bit farther then expected. In a way it was a good substitute for not riding back to Chiang Mai as the road was also bendy and hilly. I really enjoyed the ride out there - I was getting more confident with the motorbike too. As well as a really good ride there, the caves did not disappoint and we spent a good few hours looking around the limestone caves at all the stalegmites and tights and all the other formations that caves can produce. A highlight were some ancient wooden coffins that had been left centuries ago. All that was left was the fragmented wooden bits but you could tell they were long and thin coffins. I preferred just wondering around the caves in near darkness. We hadn't skimped and had a guide with us and a gas fired lantern to show us around.
Back in Pai we returned the bikes to the company who didn't seem to notice that we'd had them a day later than agreed so we skipped along happy to have saved a few pounds there. In the evening we went to our familiar bar where they had open log fires outdoors due to the cold and live music. Around 10pm the power cut in all of Pai and but the music and beer continued regardless so it was a good night.
