My trip via train from Paris to Madrid took about 4 hours longers as I could not secure the most direct route, so I ended up making two stops: one in Perpignion, France and the other in Zaragosa, Spain (near Barcelona). Some nice scenery on this route as you ride up agains the Mediterranean for a stretch and it looks just like the California coast. Another interesting site is watching as the spanish border patrol stops the train after entering Spain and asking for passports and removing 3 people from the train that could not produce the documentation. They argue for a few minutes, but the agents get, shall we say, more assertive that they and their 50 luggage bags get off now!

I leave for Lisboa, Portugal tomorrow, but not before I see the Prado museum and the royal palace in Madrid. I found out my spanish is good as I spoke to the natives here. Madrilenos remind me of New Yorkers, just a little milder. They are quick and to the point and will call you out if you make a not so smart comment. The metro is better organized than the Paris metro, or maybe its that I can read the signs now. I just got back from the meeting and caught the special talk in my own language.
Toledo and Segovia are great little historic towns with some nices stuff as you will see in the pics. Something you wont see is me at the knife shops in Toledo. There are about 2-3 that deal exclusively in knives, and a few other stores that have some knife displays. They trash each other. I buy one, very sharp authentic knife.... I may start a collection.
I will open a Spanish restaurant when I get home and the main dish will be COCHINILLO!!!!!!!!!!!!
I update again from Portugal. There is a beer that was recommended to me to have while there. I cant remember the name, so please let me know if anyone remembers.
Good bye all!
