Not too much to write here...but it was an interesting first border crossing for me.  So I had left San Cristobal yesterday to go to Xela in Guatemala.  I was traveling with Clara, from Argentina, who was helping me with my spanish.  We arrived at the border at 9pm, hoping to cross the border and pick up a bus to get us further south into Guatemala.  Unfortunately, Clara had extended her visa to Mexico for 90 days when she entered which meant she had to pay extra...which you can only do when the banks are open.  Banks aren´t open at 9pm, which meant we were stuck at the border.
Of course there´s only one hotel there...which is about $20USD a night and an absolute dump.  But there was nothing else to be done, so we spent the night and started out in the morning by making the 4km walk to the other side of the border.  After about 3 1/2 km we start seeing signs for Tapachula and Tuxtla...both of which are in Mexico.  After asking a local farmer, we find we had walked the wrong way at the border crossing, as our hotel had actually been in between the two border areas.  So 3.5km back to the border and another 4km uphill, we finally did reach the Guatemalan side.  4 hours later by bus, we´ve reached Xela.
