Today was another pretty perfect day in the life of a cycle tourer. The weather is so much better now. It was cool enough to need the sleeping bags overnight and to wear a jumper over breakfast, but warm and sunny on the bikes all day.

A puncture first thing was easily dealt with in the balmy conditions and we set off for another 60 mile day, hoping for the tailwind from yesterday. We had a cross/headwind all day instead, but 12,600 into our journey, we're pretty fit, and so only took three breaks today. I think not taking days off is making us stronger.

Mikey planned a winding route through the back roads, determined to shave some miles off the 60 mapped along the highway by Google. In the end, he only saved 3 miles, however the scenery was gorgeous and we hardly saw any cars (Hence the low swearing count!). After 11 months on the road we feel almost as if we’ve seen it all when it comes to landscapes, but the vastness of the fields and forest here still blows us away. Halfway through the day, we spotted some skyscrapers appearing on the horizon, rising out of the fields and identified Columbus.

Lunch was microwaved pizza pockets in one of the Marathon garages which have become our trusty stops in the last two states. The two employees were really excited about the trip and thought we should get straight on the phone to the Guinness Book of Records and let them know we’d nearly made it. Sadly we had to tell them that others have got there before us and we’re not that special! They demonstrated how serious the riots back at home have been when they knew all about it. This also surprised us, as a lot of the Americans we’ve met so far have had difficulty identifying the difference between the country, England, and the continent, Europe.

Sadly today we passed close to, but didn’t actually visit the town 'Amanda’. We REALLY wanted to go there, but couldn’t justify a 20 mile detour. We did manage to get a snap of the road to Amanda though. I’ve found another Elizabethtown on the way to New York which hopefully we’ll visit and tomorrow we’ll be riding through Barnesville!

The campground we picked out is lovely, although horrifically over-priced (45 dollars for a primitive site – ie. A patch of grass!!!). Mikey got them to take off $10, but it’s still pretty outrageous, only outdone by the 35 a night one in Lucerne, Switzerland. They sell ice cream and serve all-you-can-eat pancakes for breakfast though, so I’m happy. Only 549 miles to New York now and then home!!!!!!!!!!!

Off to put the tent up know, and no doubt break some more tent poles…

Great going! Hopefully easy wheeling all the way to Wheeling - I asume that is the next aim. I am just getting a bit nervous over the thought of you two cycling in New York - do they know what bicycles are? Well it sounds as if Cowes wins out against crossword! George is off to Adam's stag do this w/e which I am sure will wipe out many brain cells in those men of Bosham in thier prime! It means we is missing spending the 6th Wedding Anniversary with wife! Nil point .
Hope the cycling carries on being as good as the last few days - all love Jojo

Am not going to Cowes. Am celebrating Adrian's birthday (which I hadn't remembered in an orgainised way). We've got a race this weekend. It's the end of Junior week today and from my window at work I can see their regatta happening. How many years since you sailed in Junior week Polly? Saw Charlotte during the week, which was excellent. Last night Adrian and I went to the cinema to see Horrible Bosses which we enjoyed especially as we knew you'd seen it. So like the sound of country road USA but am not so keen on seemingly rude motorists. Am having my welcome-home-Polly- and- Mickey hair cut tomorrow. Can't wait to see you.XXXXXX
