Once again it was a cool night and we managed to sleep! The first job of the day at 8am was to Skype the Stortons over breakfast and discuss the fabulous news that in 6 months they'll be a family of four!!!!! We found out yesterday and weren’t sure it was ok to publish, however Elizabeth has now given us the green light. It’s fantastic news, and he/she is even going to be born in February like me and Olaf and all the other best people in the world. Olaf looked very unconcerned by the exciting news and was much more interested in licking the honey off his toast – an important job.

As the Storton’s currently live at Highfield we also caught up with CJB and Jojo who are both pretty clued up on cycle touring protocol now. When I mentioned that we are only 900 miles from New York, Jojo immediately calculated how many days riding it was (18) and began in depth questioning about the exact route. She and Mum have obviously been having some detailed discussions about it because we later found an email of a proposed route from Mum! It’s pretty good actually and possibly exactly where we’re going.

After that happy start, it was a pretty straightforward day’s ride. No headwind for the first time in ages and some cloud cover – fantastic. We belted out 17 miles to Marshall, a pretty town with lots of historical buildings. About ten miles after than we crossed from Illinois into Indiana but unfortunately the border was not signposted so that we missed the requisite photo. Never mind, that’s still state number 9.

The road was pretty quiet and we actually got a couple of waves today, so we arrived at the KOA Terre Haute feeling pretty pleased. It’s another nice campsite which gives out free cookies on arrival and has a café for breakfast. We’ve got a 65 mile day tomorrow so will need fuelling up. Although it was a shortish day today we both feel really, really tired. Think I’ll go and get an ice cream to wake me up a bit…

PS: That reminds me, the other day we bought some Ben and Jerry’s icecream called 'Phish Food’. I’ve heard people raving about this stuff and never seen the attraction. It was AMAZING however. Mum and Jane you both need to get some immediately. It’s a chocolate addict’s heaven.

Miles Cycled; 41, need to start putting more miles in if we are going to make it to New York

No. of times beeped and sworn at:  1 and it sounded like a friendly honk

It was wonderfull to speak to you both yesterday! I'm very glad Terre Haute did not live up to it's name. Will have to get your directons from Tricia over breakfast and crossword - all roads lead to Indianapolis by the looks of things!

Hiya guys - was great catching up with you yesterday - your Mum and Jojo are currently looking at maps for you - Tricia has a great big road atlas of America so think they have it sorted! (Trish wants to know if you realise you lost another hour?!) Anyway all well here still and hoping A will skype again soon as she wants to see Olaf!
Lots of love all of us Stortons xxxxx

Well I now have extremely red hair which Olaf gave a very long look at - what next he's probably thinking. I shall email you a photo Pols.
Yes, according to my map - you've crossed another time line which puts you 5 hours behind us? If you want to avoid Indianapolis, Jojo and I ( who know such a lot about cycling in the States!) reckon you would go a bit south and do Spencer, Nashville, Gnaw Bone(!), Columbus. As you've already decided on a 65 mile route, I imagine you don't need our advice, but surely you don't want to miss Gnaw Bone! I saw Dads off to Cowes last night with a fairly mad , motley crew in the dark, but they got there safely and should now be watching the action.
Wherever you go, take great care and stay safe. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I've just caught up with the last two states. Missouri!- quite an insight into the spectrum of the USA, ideas, behaviour, beliefs etc. I'm so glad you got through it safely and do hope that the rest of your journey will be enjoyable. It has been such a wonderful trip and I have so enjoyed being able to read about it. Please take care and looking forward to seeing you soon.
I'm now off to phone Elizabeth and George and offer my congratulations - great news!
With love Betty

Mikey - Pompey salvaged a draw:
Middlesbrough 2-2 Portsmouth FT
(HT 1-0)
Emnes 24 Williams 54
Norris 47 Varney 90+2

Palace lost away at Peterborough.

Clearly this is the news you have been most concerned about rather than the remaining mileage to NYC.

Hope the 65 miles wasn't too strenuos or marred by aggresive drivers. Is Cincinnati on youor route? I'm not sure how you by-pass Indianappolis. Had a lovely drinks party at Hankey's last night and got back in time to bb sit Olaf while his parents celebrated Jamie and Edwina's engagement - the hard core stayed on and went swimming at 6 o'clock and watched the sun rise from the water - I'll leave you to guess who the guilty 4 were!
Bosham Junior week is now under way - it's the 50th anniversary and they have asked Rachel to present the prizes as she took part in the very first Junior Week!
Olaf disgraced himself this morning in church - he took a strong objection to the singing (and I had my head turned away from him) so E and I had to curtail our visit and have just finished our bacon and mushroom breakfast - delicious!
LOL Jojo

Friends,

It was good to meet you today. It was good for the kids to see other cyclists. We'll enjoy reading your blog more when we return home. I just wanted to drop you a note with our parents home towns if you'd like a place to stay.

They live in hummelstown (just outside hershey) and new holland -both in Pennsylvania. Email me if you're interested and I'll share the addresses... They'd love guests.

Be safe.
Nathan

Am deeply relieved, that despite being maddened by Missouri and having approx 1 billion punctures, you are both able to focus on what is truly important. i.e. Trigger and Jane's chocolate consumption. Have seen Phish and will only taste when you are home. (Mainly because your mama has seen fit to give up chocolate ENTIRELY until you come back) Can you start riding a gain through the places with the lovely names. Went to new Storton house on Saturday to admire the new kitchen which is lovely. Enjoy these last few weeks.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
