The storm did not blow us away and we felt early morning that we had made it out of Kansas without experiencing a 'Dorothy Flight'. We endured some pretty ropey gas station coffee and muffins before leaving Fort Scott behind us and continuing on our way east along highway 54. We put in a 22 mile shift, crossing the state border into Missouri.  As we did a car passed and shouted aggressively, hopefully not a sign that the extreme friendliness of Kansas was about to evaporate. I gave him the universal sign of disapproval and Polly helped me to cool off with a 32oz cola.

We reached Nevada (a small town, not a return to the state) and fell victim yet again to the Golden M.  Here we did some seriously needed catch up blogging and even forced down a couple more burgers.  We attracted the now expected crowd of interested Americans and once again explained that "yes, we are cycling from LA to NY…la la la …so on and so on".  God Bless America.

We had enjoyed rain earlier in the day and riding out of Nevada we got another shower.  You could almost be mistaken for thinking you were cycling in UK as the temperature dropped into the 90s for the first time in weeks, the rains came down, and we rolled up and down green hills.  A splattered armadillo on the road and a very lost tortoise reminded that we were in The US.   We made it to El Dorado Springs where we stocked up on food and did the final 12 miles to a campground which we had spotted on Google maps.

We had no idea what to expect but we found ourselves at a gem.  The site is a dream with shady grassed pitches and wildlife to enjoy.  The humming birds were a highlight but we have also watched squirrels and many strange insects going about their business.  I have finished another book (this one only took 5 days) and Polly made a great salad for supper.  We have just booked a very swish hotel for St Louis on Sunday which actually overlooks the downtown stadium where we will be cheering on The Cardinals that evening.

Missouri is looking good!

Miles Cycled:  54 and it felt like a really full day of cycling

Yes - what a lovely name for a place! CJB and I are struggling to stay awake to 10 o'clock when we feel it is a civilised time for bed - but I don't think I can wait that long! Can you try and make a general tally of how many burgers you've had and how it corolates to how many punctures?

Fantastic stuff guys - nearly there. If you need to stay somewhere in Washington then Dan Stallian is your man. Not sure if you are going up that way, or Baltimore even?

We were all thinking of you at Bony Tony's wedding last week.

Good luck guys.

I am so pleased that you enjoyed my home state. I have religiously read every blog entry, vicariously living your wonderful adventure. I cant wait to see if you come through the Lake Ozark area. GO STL CARDS! ( I guess I'll forgive the over generalization of Divers, Mike)-Thanks for the great read, wish I wouldve known about this when you were in the neighborhood!
