Jet lagged, we reluctantly dragged ourselves out of bed at 11.30. The previous evening we'd decided against doing a guided tour of Universal studios as we only have one day – we want to go out and see the city instead and hopefully spot Beckham. Breakfast was a muffin the size of 4 English ones and then we headed off to the bus stop. The bus driver confirmed we were on the right one, and we settled in for what would be an 1hr and ride on two buses to Hollywood!

It was great, the mix of different people on the bus kept us entertained before we even started looking out of the window. Five stops from Hollywood, a superhero got on. We’d heard about these superheroes cashing in on the Walk of Fame so followed him off the bus and onto the famous pavement of stars. He immediately cashed in having his photo taken with some Chinese tourists and we got extremely excited about actually being in Hollywood.

It was packed and brilliant fun for tourists, we checked out the stars handprints in front of the Chinese Theatre, found loads of famous names on the sidewalk and then headed into the mall to see the famous sign from its view point. It was as impressive as we’d hoped and Mikey even got a photo with Samuel L Jackson on the way out. We then did a bit of shopping as we felt that Mikey’s stylish shorts purchased in Battlagundi, fashion capital of Tamil Nadu, South India probably weren’t going to cut it here. H&M did the business and we then hopped on the bus again to try and find Rodeo drive (and Becks or other celebrities).

Once again the bus driver was ridiculously friendly and even shouted over the loud speaker for change for $10 for us. (We kept forgetting that they only take exact money.) He chatted ot us all the way and then dropped us off at the end of Rodeo Drive so we could walk past all the posh houses before hitting the famous shopping section. Posh and Becks were not in sight today however so we decided to head down to Santa Monica Boulevard and check out the pier instead. Walking to the bus stop Mikey insisted he saw Robbie Williams in a car, but to be honest it could have literally been anyone. At the stop we met a very jet lagged Aussie just off the plane trying to stay awake by sightseeing. Like everyone else we’ve met recently she thought we were fellow Aussies too, and when we interrogated her as to why she explained that it’s the cargo pants (me), plaid shirt and ginger beard(Mike). Interesting.

Santa Monica was another very cool place, lots of live music and good fun to be had on the pier. We opted for reviving glasses of wine before supper in one of the many lovely restaurants. Just one more bus ride before bed, and we were very happy with our full days sightseeing. We’ve left the planning to do in the morning – all we’ve got to do is work out how to get out of this enormous city then a route through 3000 miles of varied landscapes – should be fine!
