We were blessed enough today to wake up on the beach and end the day at the beach. With all that sun (?) and surf involved it only seemed reasonable to take my first swim in The Southern Hemisphere.  I tried to talk Polly into it but with a Thermal Spa heated pool back at the campsite she resisted.

We are up and about early at the moment and I had already dropped the hire car back and ran back to the campsite (the 2 mile jog hurt) before 8am.  We spent a leisurely couple of hours at the Mount campsite before cycling out through Tauranga City.

It was a pretty easy day of cycling.  The sun was more than welcome, it really struck home how different it is to cycle in good weather.  The road was pretty busy and we were pleased to turn off Highway #2 onto the road to Waihi Beach.

From that point the music went on and we enjoyed the last 10 miles along the beach.  With the tent up we first took a swim in the sea, then we fed the eels and finally we took a soak in the hot tub.  All in all a pretty good way to end a day in the bike.

The campsite is one of the best we have been to.  A lovely older couple have joined us in the TV room concerned about their family in Christchurch, the city has again suffered earthquake aftershocks today.

The volcanic ash from Chile is disrupting flights from New Zealand so we will keep our fingers crossed as we edge closer to Auckland.  I am just looking forward to going up in a plane and watching a film rather than jumping out the door.

Hope still to speak before you leave (on our special day!) - I think I've worked out you fly at lunchtime our time abut goodness knows when you arrive - our time, NZ time LA time..... all too much. Hopefully you will have reached America by now!!! All very exciting the prospect of crossing the continent. Christopher is worried that the heat will be bad - I'm sure you can cope though considering what you have been through. Do you know what day it is though?
Off on Alice this w/e (it will be my maiden voyage) to celebrate Mums and Dads 30th! It had got all the chances of being a great jolly with Betty and Lesley definitely joining and maybe Nigel, Jo, Geoffery and Geoff. CJB and celebrated outs on Tuesday and it don't half make one feel old!
