Where I stayed
With our friend Graeme

Graeme had told is that his repertoire of dishes was limited. This was just not true as following his awesome Roast Beef last night, he served up perfect scrambled eggs for breakfast.  Later in the day he then presented a wicked tortilla for lunch and a mouth-watering venison and lamb stew for supper.  I think this in itself shows how much of a perfect stay we had in Napier.  The Dickeys home is a lovely place to visit and we felt very lucky to share a Bank Holiday Monday with our friend from a hostel in Istanbul.

On top of all of the wonderful food, we were treated to a walking tour of Napier Port and a driven tour of Napier.  The town is a wonderfully interesting place.  Hit by a severe earthquake in 1930s, it was rebuilt in the style of the time.  Chicago influences made it the Art Deco capital of the world and it has maintained its look until this day.

Graeme also took us around a side of Napier tourists certainly don't get to see.  His son is a boat builder and it was absolutely brilliant to check out the factories, present and future.  I said to Graeme that he will probably receive an order for one of his boats from the UK, but probably not for a few more years!

The afternoon was spent doing something we have not done for 9 months.  Feet up on the sofa.

Thank you Graeme for the most wonderful couple of days.  You certainly know how to look after cyclists, make sure you cycle our way soon.

Miles Cycled:  0, you cannot cycle on the Queens Birthday Holiday
