The alarm went off at 5.45am and it was still dark as we ate our muffins on the bench outside the nasty hotel, watched over by a very sleepy security guard. Yesterday's extra miles had been pretty demoralising and facing 120 miles and a minimum of 10 hours in the saddle we both felt under pressure to make quick progress. On the road it was already warm and the sun rose at 7, setting us up for 120 very hot miles. Port Dickson got slightly better as we cycled further along the shore, but beach resorts with rubbish beaches don’t hold much attraction. Lots of Malaysian weekenders were camping which looked more fun.

The first 70 miles were hilly and the last 50 incredibly hot. Not much to say beyond it was tough! We fuelled up with two lunches – noodles at 10.30am and a happy meal in Melaka MacDonald’s at 1. Ice lollies and fizzy drinks kept us going through the intense afternoon heat - no afternoon rain today to cool us off. The number 5 highway treated us well for the majority of the way, apart from one section where we couldn’t find a drinks stop for 22 miles and started to lose the plot a bit. We eventually found a family fruit stall outside their house and scoffed back 2 bags of watermelon, one of starfruit and one of pineapple as well as a funny Malaysian chilli popcorn cake/snack. Mikey made the shop owner’s little daughter’s day by giving her the happy meal toy from earlier.

Arriving in Batu Pehan at 6.30 we were completely shattered and desperate to be out of the saddles after 11   hours. Hotel Landmark did the business and even has room service. Showered, got in bed and haven’t left it. Have spoken to Giles and Char and they are waiting for us in Singapore!

Google maps says its only 100 miles to Singapore tomorrow so an early night and another early start should get us there before dark.  Must sleep and rest now …….

Miles Cycled: Another record breaker - 120 miles.

Great to know there's another Landmark Hotel - no time for you two to check out the roof terrace though! X
