Mikey and I made it to breakfast – Tom didn't. He was not looking great when he eventually emerged, but was still up for the grand cycling adventure so climbed on the moped behind Mikey and they sped off to purchase a suitable steed. They looked terrible when they got back (it was an in credibly hot day) but did have a bike with them. It looks great, but we think that strategic use of cool stickers and spray paint has made it look a bit more professional than it actually is. Nevermind – Tom’s bought a cycling top and gloves so he will look the part as well.

Lunch eaten, we loaded up the gear and set off to catch our ferry to Penang. We’d approximated that it would be a 6 mile ride. It was actually a 15 mile slog with hills throughout. Tom did well for the first hill, but then began to struggle – VERY badly. After 6 miles I said to Mikey we were going to have to give him a break, and we stopped. He promptly lay down and fell asleep! We eventually reached the ferry terminal with 20 minutes to spare before it left. On board in the freezing air-conditioning Tom fell asleep again and Mikey and I wondered if it was going to be a very long ride to Kuala Lumpur…

As usual arriving in a new town on bikes was great. We wheeled out of the ferry terminal, past excited touts and through the lantern lit streets to Chinatown and our hostel. Penang Guesthouse was perfect – clean, cool room, atmospheric building and room to park the bikes. Showered we headed out to sample hawker stall food and check out a bit of the Georgetown. Food was great – Nasi Goreng (spicy rice with little salty fish) and we also got some takeaway iced coffee and tea served in a plastic bag. (No beers wanted tonight!) We agreed to leave at 7 the next day, in an attempt to avoid the heat, and make sure we get our 60 miles done before dark.

Georgetown at night was good fun, and it probably would have been fun to spend a couple of days exploring the rest of the island, but that’s not really how our trip works and actually both Mikey and I are much more excited about the TEAM CYCLING with Tommy!! We’ll see more of the town as we cycle out of it tomorrow morning.

Great photos - where's the blogg? Great to hear about the night time safari train - no tigers though? Those Storton's and Amanda Mae have been out and about on their paddle boards today looking too cool for words CJB even had a bash! Exciting to think that Charlotte and Giles are now on their way to the airport and Singapore - have a really wonderful re-union and tell us all about it.

LOL Jojo and Christopher

All that and then you had to say ' goodbye'. Ah well - soon be 'Hello' to some more best friends. Just got back, tired and warm from a very relaxed charter of 8 sweet girls on a Hen mission - Karina is getting married on the same day as Tom and Nat - Royal wedding to survive first! I recorded the Chinese Grand Prix before I went - so, despite the sun outside, am quite tempted to watch it before someone tells me who won. Can't wait to hear you've met up with Giles and char - Tons of love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We have just waved off out own two intrepid travellers - Amanda and Dom have just left Highfield in the Bailey's ancient VW camper van to go and explore the New Forest and Dorset for a few days - I hope Dom gets out of second gear before they hit the motorway. Travelling light is not their stye - double (winter weight) duvet quilt for bottom sheet - wine, beer, cider, pork and cream casserole, bacon eggs etc and more games and toys you can shake a stick at! The weather is immaculate so hopefully they will just play outside.

Hope you four are haveing the times of your life - not sure if you have got to Borneo yet or not - but please give my regards to the silver backs.
LOL Jojo
