Leaving Bangkok we cycled through another 10 miles of city, checking out the Grand Palace on our way and enjoying whizzing past grumpy commuters stuck in traffic. The entire day passed in a blur of very fast cycling and periodic stops for fuel. The highway is incredibly relaxing when compared to Vietnam, and we're just getting used to normal driving. Seriously, here they not only never use the horn, they stop for red lights and junctions, only drive on the correct side of the road and treat us as hazards to be carefully driven round and avoided! Amazing after 3 months of ear-splittingly noisy mayhem. We met Newton’s Thai twin in one garage, a very cute stray who even pulled Newt’s classic begging move, putting his paw on my knee and tilting his head on one side. It worked and we shared our ritz crackers with him. Lunch was yet more Pad Thai and fried rice, both of which are perfect cycling fuel , quick to prepare and very cheap. Weirdly, it was cold today and I actually put on my new cycling sleeves to keep warm, rather than keep off the sun. The last two hours were incredibly fast, with a strong tailwind and we reached Phetchaburi  just as the night market was being set up, making for a scenic, if hectic entrance. A very kind man in a pet shop drew us a map to the guesthouse we’d chosen it turned out to be an excellent choice. Although the room was literally just that, the whole place was very atmospheric and the restaurant overlooking the river, beautiful. Big miles caught up with me after the meal however, so whilst I slept Mikey went out to check out the night life. He found a bar showing football and was pretty pleased! Some English backpackers obviously found something a bit more exciting however as whilst Mikey got back at 10, they staggered in at 5am crashing around in the corridor before they passed out.
