We breakfasted on omelettes and baguettes before setting off into the already baking sunshine for yet another day of friendly encounters. Our legs started to feel the miles today, as did our bottoms, but the thought of some western food spurred us on towards the fourth largest tourist destination of Cambodia. The road side restaurants with dishes of ready prepared food are really making our lives easier here, and yet again we had a quick and easy stop at 35miles which set us up for the last 30. The only problem of the day came 10 miles outside the city when the sky suddenly clouded over and just managed to find a café before the down pour started. The rain was torrential and was filling the shack owner's open air kitchen very quickly. We waited patiently for half an hour watching the cute little chicks take shelter under the bench.  When the rain finally eased to a drizzle we decided to go for it but unfortunately as we collected our bikes we discovered that the hard dust that we had left our bikes on had turned into sinking mud.  Our bike shoes and bikes got completely bogged, by the time we arrived at the hotel in Battambang, we were an absolute muddy state.

The hotel was a gem.  Showered and mud removed we hit the town and tracked down the Lonely Planet recommended Café Gecko.  It was a good shout, all the home comforts we had been hoping for.  We are however really tired and I am not sure if we are ready for the 70 odd mile push for the border tomorrow.

Miles cycled: 68 tired miles
