Where I stayed
Hiep Hoa Resort
We woke to more very strong winds so got to our schools early before it became too much. Another great morning's kiting
Mikey – standing for longer
Dan – whizzing up and down on the board
Clare – in the water with the board nearly standing up
Polly – ANOTHER SELF RESCUE!!! This time the when the kite hit the water it deflated so that we had to do something called a pack down. This means rolling it into a sausage and lying on it to paddle the 200m back to shore- pretty tiring and I'm beginning to think I’m jinxed
After another scrumptious lunch at Mr Tams, Clare opted to chill out on a sunbed whilst Mikey, Dan and I headed 30km south on moped’s to have a closer look at the white sand dunes. It was a hairy ride out there against the wind with sand blasting our faces, but Dan loved the coastal views we’ve been cycling through. He also loved it when we arrived at the sand dunes and found that they also provided Ostrich rides – very random. At a pound a go, they were unmissable and Dan jumped straight on. We had initially thought it would involve just sitting and having a photo taken, but as soon as he was on board the handlers urged the bird to run to the other end of its enclosure. Luckily none of the birds seemed inclined to bite and when Dan survived Mikey braved it. On the short walk to the dunes we also managed to meet a puppy that looked like a kitten and a very cute little monkey that spent a long time carefully checking Dan for fleas.
The actual dunes were as incredible as they look in the photos, and really made you feel like desert explorers. A beer on the seafront watching the sunset on our return was pretty good too.
We opted for Indian this evening and were not at all disappointed by the Lonely planet’s recommendation. Kitesurfing is so tiring however that we notice we’re heading back as everyone else is heading out for the night!
