We woke up very excited about meeting up with Dan and Clare. We spent the early morning checking out loads of lovely beach resorts, and eventually decided on a basic but really friendly and cheap one, reasoning that as we are going to be kite surfing all day we won't need a pool. The beach is also gorgeous for swimming. We’ve got two little rooms with balconies on top of each other – perfect.

We packed up and pedalled the 200m from the stuffy cupboard to the lovely beach front and sat in reception with iced coffees to wait for the big arrival! (It is insanely hot again now.) Dan and Clare had got a taxi, but realised they had actually only been 500m down the road. They’d had a bit of a nightmare trying to find a room at 3.30 in the morning, but look very tanned and relaxed already.

After checking them in we got straight on the beach to negotiate kite surfing lessons. On Dan and Mikey’s say so we chose the Russian school run by blondes in bikinis. They let us start straight after lunch for an hour to see how we liked it. Claire and I shared an instructor to practise on the training kite. She mastered it straight away, looking very professional guiding it with one hand. I was rubbish!!! It kept crashing into a patch of prickles on the beach and the instructor and the other helpers got fed up of dragging it out of there. Mikey says the actual kite is much easier – I really hope so!

Daniel carried on after the hour as he had ditched the training kite after about 5 minutes and was rigged up in a proper one. He then got into the water body dragging. His instructor was raving about the fact that he’d never seen anyone learn so quickly and he should be using the board tomorrow – Typical!! He has watched all the DVD’s on the subject – geek.

A delicious meal followed by a bit a shark wrestling by Dan made the first of many fantastic evenings. We’ve looked into the route ahead and calculated that we can have 4 more days off here and leave on the 11th to cycle to Saigon. We’ll then have 5 weeks to cycle to Singapore, with 4 days off – should be nice and fit by the time we meet Giles and Char! We’re going to load Dan and Clare up with all of our winter gear to take home so hopefully a bit less weight will speed us up too.

Miles Cycled: About 200m to our new room!
