Looking back at the photos from today I can see that we have got used to having Mum snapping away all the time and not having to bother ourselves! Oh well, not much to report anyway. Mum, Dad and even Dan dragged themselves out of bed to have coffee with us while Mikey and I had our final Landmark Hotel breakfast at 6.15. It was so much easier leaving them having a lovely time on holiday than it would have been had Mum and Dad gone on the 4th when they were supposed to. I'm sure that Dad’s tandem flight today will have taken his mind off it and Mum will have a couple of relaxing glasses of white wine in the sun watching both him and Dan land.  I always feel really sad saying goodbye to Dan (even though he and Mikey have been ganging up on me for three weeks and Daniel loves nothing better than to annoy me) but we’re meeting up with him and Claire in Vietnam now so will only be two months.

We were the first to arrive at the bus station, but getting the bikes on the roof safely meant we could relax and watch the sunrise over the mountains while we waited for everyone else to arrive. Of the 20 or so  buses at the station ours was the last to leave as we had some jobsworth organising the seating who kept moving everyone around and getting cross when no one took any notice of him! The actual journey was incredibly bumpy, but uneventful. Two stops for food and to use filthy toilets and 7 hours later we were back in Kathmandu. (Mikey says there was actually some lovely scenery, but I took some travel sickness pills and slept the entire way.)

When we staggered off the bus, Mikey and I realised that we were actually outside the office where we had picked up the third and final taxi on our way to Pokara. He suggested we go in and say 'hello!' , but we were soon surrounded by taxi drivers trying to take us to hotels and giving us loads of grief. After 2 or 3 false starts Mikey finally managed to get a taxi driver to put the bikes on top of his car and take us to the travel agent we have booked to go to Tibet with. Before setting off he had to chuck out a mate of the taxi drivers who jumped in and thought he would take us to a hotel  instead. Without his mate our driver became very grumpy and told us that our bikes on the roof were causing the terrible traffic! Crazy. Anyway, after trying to fob us off with a hotel with a name vaguely similar to the travel agent we eventually got to Tashi Delek Treks. Mikey went in and came out with a lovely guy who took us to a hotel they recommended, thereby avoiding the trauma of trailing round loads.

Sacred Valley Inn was clean although very cold, but the happy chappy at reception said he would get us hot water bottles and was very protective of the bikes so we settled in. Having not eaten on the journey we went straight down the end of the road to a lonely planet recommended café and had lattes and apple pie.  400m higher Kathmandu is noticibly colder than Pokara and wandering round later to get the passports back from the travel agent and find out more about our trip we were shivering.

Tashi Delek Treks were really organised and gave us a detailed itinery. We also found out that it was lucky we had not bought a China or Tibet guide book as they would be confiscated at the border. The 12 year old one that Mum had bought for a pound was not too much of a loss. Just as the power in the office went out we met Richard (English) and Mirinae (Korean) who would be coming with us on the trip – they had seen our passport photos before but that’s not a good introduction for either of us!

Mikey started to feel rough on the way back to the hotel so I had some sandwiches and soup in the room and he just tried to sleep after more rehydration sachets. Although excited about the trip we were not excited about another 5.45am start.
