So, it is 5 am in the morning, we have not slept for about 24 hours. We have lost our bikes and most of our luggage.  There are no hotels and we are in India!  The sun is now coming up and already walking along the road with hand luggage has resulted in an all over body sweat.  It is really hot.  But wow, my first glimpse of India really excites.  I was unsure what to expect, Pols has been here twice before but this is my first visit.  We decided to head out of town to the coast, Pols made the excellent call to get a local bus.  It was so bumpy on the road out but already there was so much to look at.  People walking everywhere along the roadside, rickshaws and moped whizzing in all directions, brightly coloured temples and food stands lined the roads.  We went deeper into the Palm groves until we arrived in the beach resort town of Kovalam.  After brushing off a few early morning touts, we settled for drinks.  I had the biggest pot of tea ever and feeling very refreshed set out to find a bed.  I found a gem with a balcony overlooking the sea.  The old lady on reception was highly amusing, but we agreed a price and Pols and I checked in.  Within minutes we had crashed out to catch up on some sleep.  The rest of the day was spent in somewhat of a daze, pretty spun out by the fact we are India.  A thunder storm hit the beach as we were out for an afternoon stroll, but we had a good paddle in the crashing waves.  I am writing this early evening, in the dark.  There is no electricity, I was told an hour ago it is being fixed !!  We must return to the airport in the morning and hope to find a couple of bikes hanging around.  In the mean time we are off to devour the local fishermens catch of the day and listen to Bob Marley!

Yep, the Goan Fish Curry was amazing (see photo)

Having just talked to you for more than half an hour - I still dashed to the Blog - very addictive! Confess I'm curious as to wrote the last comment! Ever the optimist, I am sure the bikes will turn up and I hope to hear soon that's the case. Also sure that India is going to be amazing for you and that there are fun days ahead. Sleep well again - those bikes had better be there in the morning ( just a thought, they may well have travelled to places that otherwise they would not have been to!)xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh no.... well that's what happens when you shave the lucky beard off and wax your cheeks! (face!!) still at least you'll look beautiful soaking up the rays on the Indian beaches Mike. From what we hear Indian airlines stopped using planes built by the Wright Brothers in the 1980's so hopefully your bikes aren't being used as undercarriage in a cost saving scheme, sure they will turn up, enjoy the break, good luck and keep going, lots of love to you both xxx

Hiya you two - soooo glad you're bikes are back, just read your Mum & Dad's last entry. Don't miss a minute of India, it's a truly amazing place which I'm sure you're starting to see. One phrase our travel guide there told us was to "always expect the unexpected" and wow was she right! I will never forget such an amazing country. Glad Dave & Ellie enjoyed Istanbul (hiya if you're reading this!! xx). Lou & I stayed at Rachel & Dave's at the weekend with Laura & Nat (honourary Nev!!) and we went for a pizza, then onto the Waterside for some amazing cocktails.
Looking forward to the India stories xxx
