The 73 miles of yesterday required a late start.  It was hard to leave the very plush hotel but it was time to move on, I crashed over a big metal bin in the foyet with one of the panniers on the way out just to announce our departure, extremely embarrasing.  It was a foggy start but up the first hill of the day out of Karnobat the sun started to break through.  Polly was in a bit of  a strop (I know, impossible to believe) but a few miles of downhill cheered us both up.  It was a pretty uneventful morning, the spread out villages proving to be pretty depressing places with not even a shop to break the gloom.  We did eventually come across a good rest stop.  We managed to have a conversation with three ladies in the shop, they definately only spoke Bulgarian (or it could actually have been Turkish), pretty irrelevant given our complete absence of both.  On cutting our chunk of ham the lady left it sitting on the scales which she then used to weigh the fruit and sweets we had carefully selected.  This possibly explains why we skipped lunch today.  We left the sleepy village behind with its smoking piles of leaves along the road side.  We have really been looking forward to reaching Burgas.  It is the first coastline we have come across since leaving the landing beaches of Normandy.  However, the ride in through several miles of stinking industrial zone removed some of the expected romance.  When we did finally reach the water it was not so inviting, very much out of season with work being done along the promenades.  My planned dip in The Black Sea did not happen today.  It will have to wait for more suitable beach (maybe tomorrow).  Instead we found a very nice family ran guesthouse off the main strip and wandered round the tacky but somewhat charming seaside resort of Burgas, we even treated ourselves to a drink in Happy Bar and Grill, Bulgarias answer to HardRock Cafe.  A good steady day and we have time this evening to plan the final 4 nights stays into Istanbul.
