Today was all about the opera.  Early start to get washing of clothes done and polished off scrambled eggs and salami.  Polly had been on at me for ages to master the perfect scramble eggs and her tuition today finally paid off.  Caught bus/tube into town and wandered around Schoonburg Palace on the way in.  Magnificent building with better gardens, red squirrels included.  Vienna provided good strolling place, skyped for the first time and was great to see The Gicks.  We had noodles and beer for lunch and the went on a hunt to buy a backpack.  After lunch we joined the queue for opera tickets.  I was asked to leave as shorts where not allowed.  I had every intention of buying trousers but had planned to do so after buying the ticket!  This did not stick and so I had to leave Polly and after a visit to H&M I returned with a point to prove.  I had even bought shoes and a tie.  This clearly did not impress the steward and he refused to allow me to rejoin the queue with Polly, so to the back I went.  Anyway, to cut a long one short we both got tickets and grabbed a famous Vienna sausage stand sausage before taking our place in the grand state opera hall.  We loved Lucrezia Borgia, the opera is a great experience and I cannot wait to do it again, next time in style, not in smelly traveling gear. Polly actually had to take off her waterproof socks during the interval as her feet were overheating.

(I also had to take off my waterproof trousers in the queue as the man noticed them and he said they were sports wear. He was very worried when I immediately stripped them off in front of him! I liked the opera, but it was a shame we couldn't see the main stars singing. Also TOO hot!)

Have added comments after all your photos and they don't seem to come up on ordinary blog - so please check after photos on each entry - if you see what I mean? xxxxxxxxxx

It is all sounding amazing - I'm so glad you got to the opera - Vienna is so beautiful - even if the average age is over 50! I hope you get a chance to try the 'heuriga' winde (no idea how it's spelt) but it is the new wine of the year - you drink in in half pint measures, very cold and it's delicious and quite heady.

CJB have just got back from a few days in Honfleur - not our best trip - he walked into a glass door getting out luggage into the hotel and it deveolped into a huge eff over his eyebrow and the next day a deep darl purple black eye. The he got the tunny rot so I had to amuse myself all day and then I got a stye in the eye! Still the sun shone most of the time and we had some good food.

You are both looking very health and glowing - married life must suit you or is it all the exercise? Loving the blogs and have to check first thing every morning - aren't I a saddo!

Lots of love from us both Jojo and Christopher

Don't seem to have perfected the picture, missed the face out somewhat and only a bit of the wedding hat - so will try and get help. Keep going you two and I'll keep trying! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Guys - Love Mum's picture! She and I hit the crossword on the head yesterday. We seem to be basking in the most glorious Indian Summer - had the usual suspects here for Sunday lunch - minus George who was making the most of the weather and sailing toys. Got it to almost perfection even though I say it myself - I think there must be a potato(e) (never know if the e should be there or not!) fairy looking down on me as they were yummy and Mandy made a marmalade pudding cake. I think we should make a date for a Sunday in September for Gicks, Barnetts, Storten's et al to have a welcome back Sunday lunch.

Now ready to get settled down to the Antiques Road Show and then the classic costume drama that is gripping us all "Downton Abbey" great stuff with Maggie Smith at her haughty best "What is a weekend anyway?" she is seriously upper class and has no concept of work!

Anyway enough babbling (CJB and I did have a very small Calvados in the garden after all lunch guests had gone) really looking forward to the next blog entry and Amanda Mae misses you very much indeed!

All love Jojo and Christopher

Have just been in fits of giggles after reading Jojo's description of Christopher's holiday adventures!
Went windsurfing/swimming today - Steve and I were most grateful for George's helpful hints which helped us to work out how to get to where we had started! Think I may have caused some problems for some people racing though.....
Great to speak to you both on Friday....must do it again soon.
Much Love xxxxxxx
